Comparison of PP and SMS materials:

Softness:

• PP (Polypropylene) is generally stiffer and less soft than SMS, as it is made of spunbond fibers, which are durable but not as smooth. The texture of polypropylene can be a bit rough, especially in lower thickness products (20 gsm), but it is well ventilated.
• SMS (Spunbond-Meltblown-Spunbond), on the other hand, is softer, as it has a layered structure. The middle meltblown layer makes it smoother and more comfortable, making it more suitable for direct contact with the skin, for example in bed sheets. 40 gsm SMS is noticeably softer than 20 gsm PP sheets.

Strength:

• PP (Polypropylene), especially at higher grammage, offers good strength and durability. A 40 gsm PP sheet will be stronger than a 20 gsm PP sheet, more resistant to tearing or damage during use.
• SMS is generally stronger than PP as it combines spunbond and meltblown layers, providing both strength and filtration efficiency.
